May 5th – Chesterman Beach, Wild Pacific Trail hike in Ucluelet, and Cathedral Trail hike
Before I left Tofino, I headed out to Chesterman Beach to take a look (it seems to be the most popular place for surfing). There were several surfers and kayakers on the waves, but not as many as I was expecting. The beach was alright though in terms of scenery, nothing too spectacular.
I then headed for the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet (about 35 km south of Tofino). I hiked the first portion of the trail and it had a very nice view of the coast line. I also hiked the second portion (which included the new “Artist Loop” section) which also offered nice views of the coast line. But in terms of scenery, it was nothing overtly spectacular. The trails themselves were well maintained though.
On my drive to Nanaimo I stopped at the Cathedral Trail, which had gigantic trees towering high up. It was a pretty magical place, and I needed to come back for more pictures (it was getting late).
