Day 4 (April 4th) - Regina

I’m beat I have to admit, all this driving was making me sore and feeling out of shape. I can see why truck drivers look the way one would imagine. Plus I was feeling like I was developing a pot belly like them. It also didn’t help that the drive was pretty boring (flat farm fields all around me through the entire drive). As I arrived in Regina, I was expecting not a whole lot from this place but I was wrong. I arrived at 4:30 pm and the hostel didn’t open till 6 pm, so I had time to kill. I decided to go for a walk, and I strolled around Wascana Lake. The walk was more scenic than I thought, in a way a bit nicer than Dow’s Lake.

The most memorable highlight though, was meeting Ed at the hostel. He was a “sickly old man” as he described himself with a charming humor, who was trying to find a place to move in (I was guessing a retirement home). I felt kind of bad for him, having to stay here till he could find some place to move in. But I hung out with him most of the time because he had funny things to say and told funny stories. Such as he when he asked me why my shirt said “Vote Mexican”, but it was actually “Vote MEC” lol. He told me he drove from Kitchener to Regina in 31 hours without sleeping, well shit he put me to shame lol. Also in the past he was a sparring partner of a Saskatchewan welterweight boxing champ. In addition, he witnessed the Premier of Saskatchewan (back in the day who boxed) get knocked down 3 times by an 18 year old farm boy which was hilarious because they were worried about the kid getting hurt at first.
